AANI and DSS Strengthen Collaboration for Enhanced National Security in Nigeria

In a significant move to tackle Nigeria’s pressing security challenges, the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) recently paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mr. Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit, led by AANI President Ambassador E.O. Okafor, was focused on strengthening ties and exploring collaborative efforts between the two organizations.

A statement by AANI spokesperson, Brig Gen Usman Kukasheka said that during the meeting, Ambassador Okafor expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the DG DSS and congratulated him on his recent appointment, recognizing it as a testament to his professionalism and dedication. He emphasized AANI’s commitment to national development and highlighted the association’s extensive expertise in various sectors, particularly in defense and security.

Ambassador Okafor proposed several partnership initiatives designed to support the DSS’s mandate, including capacity building, research-driven policy advisories, and strategic collaborations. “AANI remains a reservoir of expertise,” he stated, expressing the association’s readiness to work with the DSS to achieve enhanced national security outcomes.

In response, Mr. Ajayi welcomed the visit and praised AANI for its contributions to national development. He noted the unique qualifications of AANI members, many of whom have backgrounds in defense and intelligence, and positioned the association as a crucial ally in the nation’s security framework.

The DG DSS also stressed the importance of integrating research findings from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, highlighting their relevance in addressing contemporary security issues including ungoverned spaces and social injustice. “AANI’s research outputs are a treasure trove that can significantly enhance the fight against insecurity if fully utilized,” he remarked, pledging his commitment to leveraging AANI’s insights to strengthen DSS strategies and operations.

The meeting included participation from several prominent AANI members, including Vice President Mrs. Olufunke Amos, former association president Engineer (Dr) Mohammed Gambo Umar, and other key officials. The DSS delegation comprised senior officials from the Service’s Management Team.

This meeting underscores the necessity of collaborative efforts between institutions to foster peace, security, and national development. Both AANI and the DSS reaffirmed their dedication to working together to enhance Nigeria’s security framework for a stable society.
