FG Unveils 37000 Citizen Brigades to Promote Patriotism, High Moral Values
The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has said that the Agency will launch the Citizen Brigades in primary and secondary schools to promote leadership, moral values and to nurture young Nigerians as ambassadors of the country.
The DG made this known during a Town Hall Meeting/Parley with the Media on how to promote and enlighten the populace about: “The National Values Charter which aims at Striking the Balance Between Government’s Promises and Citizens Responsibilities in Nation Building.”
According to him, the Citizen Brigades which will be launched this year starting with 37,000 members. “There will be 1,000 per state, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).”
The Citizen Brigades he said will be fashioned after the old Boys’ Scouts and Girls’ Brigades where members would learn leadership and moral values.
”They will be raised as model citizens who embody the national identity. Millions of Nigerian children will join the brigade in a few years, causing a deliberate movement of value ambassadors, model citizens and a generation of new Nigerians,” he said
Speaking further, the NOA Director General noted that the 7 For 7 acronym from “The Seven Institutionalisation Policies,” entails Reciprocal Commitments between the Country and the Citizens as National Values Charter with the 7 tagged ‘The Nigerian Promise, advocating for all Nigerians; Equality, Democracy, Entrepreneurship, Peace & Security, Inclusivity, Freedom & Justice as well as Meritocracy.
In the same vein, ‘The Citizen’s Code’ as emboldened in the “Let us build Nigerians to build Nigeria,” emphasised such National Values as Discipline, Duty of Care, Tolerance, Leadership, Accountability, Environmental Awareness and Resilience to be imbibed and upheld by all Nigerians.
