Kano Police Chief Records 1,483 Arrests, Achieves Remarkable Crime Control in Six Months
The Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP Salman Dogo Garba, has reported a significant breakthrough in the fight against crime, with the arrest of 1,483 suspects within six months. This achievement underscores his unwavering commitment to maintaining public safety and curbing criminal activities across the state.
Speaking during a recent meeting with a delegation from Image Merchants Promotion, publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, CP Garba emphasized his zero-tolerance policy towards crime. “I do not fraternize with criminal elements, regardless of their affiliations. Under my leadership, there is no room for crime. Since assuming office, I have maintained neutrality and urged my team to uphold professionalism in our statutory duties,” he said.
The Commissioner highlighted the Command’s consistent efforts to enhance the security of Kano residents, reflecting a strong and proactive approach to law enforcement.
Since taking office in June 2024, CP Garba has implemented various security initiatives, with robust support from the Inspector General of Police and the Kano State Government. These efforts have resulted in the apprehension of suspects involved in diverse criminal activities, including: 1,278 alleged political thugs, 82 armed robbery suspects, 18 individuals linked to kidnapping, 10 suspected cattle rustlers, 36 drug dealers, 17 fraudsters and 11 motor vehicle thieves
Other arrests involved cases of gun running, human trafficking, theft, and forgery.

The Command also rescued 25 human trafficking victims, 8 kidnapping victims, and 2 abductees, demonstrating their dedication to protecting lives.
In addition, major crime-related operations led to the recovery of a large cache of weapons, vehicles, and illicit substances. The police seized counterfeit currencies totaling over N149,542,823, including $3,366,000 in fake U.S. dollars, 51,970,000 counterfeit Central African francs and N1,443,000 in counterfeit naira
Additionally, the police recovered N48,923,000 in genuine cash, along with other items, including motor vehicles, motorcycles, tricycles, sharp knives, cutlasses, bottles of Bacardi syrup, and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
CP Garba emphasized that these accomplishments reflect the police force’s dedication to ensuring law and order in Kano State. He reiterated his commitment to impartiality and professionalism in the discharge of his duties, vowing to sustain the momentum in tackling crime.
In his remarks, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, Chief Executive Officer of Image Merchants Promotion, commended CP Garba for his achievements in enhancing security. He lauded the Commissioner for maintaining stability in Kano, even as neighboring states grapple with banditry and terrorism.
“The strides you have made in just six months against political thugs, armed robbers, kidnappers, and other social miscreants are commendable,” Shuaib said.
Shuaib, who was in Kano to inaugurate the PRNigeria Young Communication Fellowship and host the annual retreat for staff of Image Merchants Promotion Limited, stressed the importance of proactive measures in curbing crime and safeguarding the peace of Kano State.
