Garba Shehu Responds to Alleged Revocation of Buhari Land in Abuja

In a statement released today, Garba Shehu, spokesperson for former President Muhammadu Buhari, addressed the ongoing buzz surrounding the alleged seizure of land in Abuja supposedly owned by the former president. Shehu emphasized that the plot of land in question is not personally owned by Buhari but is allocated to the Muhammadu Buhari Foundation, which was established by a group of individuals around him in a lawful manner.

According to Shehu, the Foundation has encountered significant hurdles with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), specifically with the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA). He revealed that the organization was presented with an exorbitant bill for the issuance of a certificate of occupancy, a cost that disproportionately exceeds what similar organizations are typically charged.

While Shehu suggested that this discrepancy could be a deliberate error, he noted that the revocation of the land should not come as a shock to anyone given the circumstances. He clarified that during his presidency, Buhari himself declined an offer for additional land, stating that he already owned a plot in the Federal Capital Territory. He encouraged those who are reacting to the recent land seizure reports to approach the topic with more accuracy and integrity, urging them to refrain from tarnishing the reputation of the former president.

“The former president’s name should not be dragged into unnecessary controversy without proper understanding of the facts,” Shehu concluded, urging the public to respect the truth behind the situation.

The spokesperson’s remarks come amid increased speculation and discussion on social media regarding the implications of the land seizure and its relationship to Buhari’s legacy.
