Your Claims are Baseless – FG Dismisses Niger Junta’s Leader Accusations against Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has dismissed recent allegations by General Abdourahamane Tchiani, the military leader of Niger Republic, as baseless and unfounded. In a viral video, Tchiani accused Nigeria of colluding with France to destabilize his country.

In a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, Nigeria refuted the claims, labeling them as a fabrication without evidence. The government emphasized that it has never engaged in any covert or overt alliances with France or any other nation to sponsor terrorism or undermine Niger’s stability.

“Nigeria remains committed to fostering peace, harmony, and diplomatic ties with Niger. As Chairman of ECOWAS, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently advocated for dialogue and collaboration to address the political situation in Niger,” the statement read.

The Federal Government highlighted the success of Nigeria’s Armed Forces and their collaboration with the Multinational Joint Task Force in combating terrorism within the region. It rejected suggestions of conspiracies to arm terror groups or sabotage Niger’s infrastructure, describing such accusations as absurd.

The statement also pointed to Nigeria’s longstanding tradition of maintaining its sovereignty and independence, noting that no foreign military bases are permitted on Nigerian soil. It further cited Nigeria’s support for joint projects like the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline and the Kano-Maradi Railway as evidence of its commitment to Niger’s economic development.

Addressing claims about a so-called terrorist headquarters in Sokoto State, Nigeria countered that it has actively fought threats through operations such as “Operation Forest Sanity III.” The government urged Tchiani to provide credible evidence for his allegations and called on the public to disregard the unfounded accusations.

“Nigeria remains a regional leader in combating terrorism and fostering stability. Allegations like these distract from the pressing need for constructive dialogue and collaboration,” the statement concluded.

The Federal Government reiterated its commitment to regional stability and urged the Nigerien leadership to focus on internal reforms rather than making baseless accusations against its neighbors.
