The Bayero University Kano Class of 1992, known as BUK Class ’92, has made a significant contribution by donating two million Naira to support indigent students at the institution while also raising an impressive N1.2 million to assist patients in critical condition at the Aminu Kano University Teaching Hospital (AKTH)

These generous donations were part of the Class ’92 Forum’s activities commemorating their 32nd Anniversary Reunion and 9th Alumni Dinner, held on Friday in Kano.

While receiving the scholarship cheque, the Vice Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, commended the Class of 1992 Alumni for their unwavering commitment to the annual donation aimed at supporting indigent students.

He further encouraged other alumni groups and similar organizations to emulate this noble gesture, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in fostering education and providing opportunities for underprivileged students.

At the Gala Dinner of the Class 92, the Chairman of the Forum, Muhammad Dahiru Sa’ad, expressed his enthusiasm for the annual event, emphasizing the importance of giving back to both the university and the broader community.

“This is a yearly event where we reconnect and engage with our alma mater. Earlier today, we had the privilege of meeting the Vice Chancellor and presenting our donation of two million Naira to support indigent students,” Sa’ad stated.

In addition to their support for students, Sa’ad explained that the Forum allocated N1.2 million to assist 15 patients identified as needing urgent medical attention at the teaching hospital.

“We consistently identify patients in critical conditions and provide assistance. This year, we were able to support around 15 patients,” he added.

Sa’ad praised the Class ’92 Forum for its consistency, describing it as a role model for other alumni groups.

“This marks our ninth consecutive year of reunion meetings, fostering engagement and collaboration. Our collective efforts make a meaningful impact and drive progress,” he remarked.

Looking towards sustainability, Sa’ad revealed ongoing discussions about investment opportunities aimed at ensuring continued support for both the university and the community.

“We hope to sustain this positive impact. Many members have suggested potential areas for investment to make our contributions more sustainable,” he affirmed.

Engr. Rakiya Abubakar, Vice Chairperson of the Abuja Chapter of BUK ’92, also addressed the gathering, urging members from other states to establish similar chapters to enhance networking and support.

She highlighted the importance of the quarterly meetings in Abuja, which create invaluable opportunities for camaraderie and support among members and their families.

Additionally, during the event, Mallam Yushau Shuaib, Managing Director of Image Merchants Promotion Limited (IMPR), publishers of PRNigeria and Economic Confidential, recognized the collective contributions of alumni members toward societal and human capital development.

“I commend those among us who have extended their support beyond alumni activities, helping other families as well. Many are effectively using their positions for the greater good,” he stated, encouraging members to continue supporting one another.

The BUK Class of 1992 is renowned for being one of the most active alumni groups in BUK’s alumni history. In 2022, they gathered from various walks of life to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of their graduation from the esteemed institution.

Inspired by the creation of a WhatsApp group in April 2016, the forum has emerged as a leading example for other alumni associations, making an impact valued at over one hundred million Naira to date.

“Since our reunion in 2016, we have funded tuition fees amounting to millions for indigent students, covered medical bills at hospitals, bailed out awaiting trial inmates, and undertaken numerous developmental interventions totaling hundreds of millions in value,” shared Hakama Sidi Ali, a member of BUK Class ’92, in an interview with PRNigeria at the event.
