Your Leadership is Key to Nigeria’s Prosperity – Tinubu tells Governors
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the critical role of state governors in driving Nigeria’s development, emphasizing their leadership as pivotal to achieving economic growth, food security, and grassroots progress.
President Tinubu disclosed this during a New Year homage by Vice President Kashim Shettima and members of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) at his Ikoyi residence in Lagos.
He lauded the governors for their support and collaboration and outlined key areas requiring joint efforts between the federal and state governments, including agricultural productivity, local government autonomy, and currency stabilization.
“You are the most important link to Nigeria’s prosperity and development,” President Tinubu stated. “The Federal Government accounts for about 30 to 35 percent of the allocated revenue; the rest comes to you. The agricultural value chain depends on you. You own the land, and the job is in your hands.”
The President dispelled rumors of disagreements with the governors over local government autonomy, stressing the importance of collaboration. “We will not fight within us. I will drive the change. You control your local governments. You can restore hope by effectively fulfilling what the people expect at the grassroots level,” he said.

Similarly, President Tinubu urged the governors to prioritize agricultural growth, describing it as a pathway to economic stability and currency improvement. He also expressed pride in the progress made by various states, attributing recent achievements to increased federal allocations and policy reforms.
“There is no state we cannot visit and be proud of its development. Let me take the abuse; you take the privileges. Together, we will build a nation we are all proud of,” the President added.
Reflecting on his leadership journey, Tinubu expressed confidence in Nigeria’s resilience. “I am glad I asked for this job, and Nigerians gave me the mandate. We’ll be on this voyage together,” he said.
The President announced plans to visit Enugu State on January 4 as part of his nationwide tours to assess ongoing projects.
Meanwhile, the NGF chairman and Governor of Kwara State, Abdulrahman Abdulrazak, commended Tinubu’s leadership and the administration’s policies, describing them as transformative. He highlighted successes in agriculture, noting how policies have spurred bumper harvests and export opportunities.
“The policies are working,” Abdulrazak said. “Most of us are encouraging ourselves to buy bumper stocks into our silos, store them for the rainy day. We’ll continue to deepen that and ensure we are 100% sustained in food security.”
Abdulrazak praised the administration’s economic restructuring, which has enabled states to execute more projects despite inflationary pressures.
Finally, the governors assured Tinubu of their continued support, particularly in enhancing local security and promoting sustainable development across the nation.
