Arewa Coalition Slams Tchiani, Demands Action Against Turji, Terrorist Groups in Northern Nigeria

The leadership of the Arewa Youths Coalition for Peace and Political Development and the Northern Elders Progressive Group has condemned the allegations made by Niger’s Military Head, General Abdourahamane Tchiani, claiming that Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is conspiring with France to destabilize Niger. Describing these claims as “irresponsible,” the coalition has demanded a formal apology from Tchiani. They also commended Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, for his peace initiatives and urged him to intensify efforts against notorious bandit Bello Turji.

This declaration came after the coalition’s 8th joint meeting in Kaduna on January 1, during which they issued a strong communique addressing pressing national issues and the challenges confronting Nigeria’s northern region.

In a seven-point agenda, the leaders applauded the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to combat insecurity, particularly in the Northwest, where military operations under ‘Fansan Yamma’ aim to mitigate various threats. They urged political leaders and regional elites to collaborate in finding sustainable solutions to the ongoing challenges that have impeded progress and unity in the North.

“A united front is essential for fostering political understanding and cohesion among Nigerians,” the communiqué stated. The leaders called for an end to divisive rhetoric and actions that have contributed to instability, encouraging all political figures to transcend political, religious, and ethnic differences for the greater good of the region and the nation.

Concerns were also raised about the role of religious clerics, with the communiqué criticizing some for deviating from their moral teachings and engaging in inflammatory rhetoric. The leaders urged religious figures to refrain from spreading misinformation and to allow experts to address complex political and security issues.

The coalition expressed strong disapproval of the recent accusations made by General Tchiani regarding President Tinubu’s alleged collusion with France. They labeled these allegations as “irresponsible” and called for an immediate public apology from Tchiani.

Furthermore, they emphasized the importance of maintaining unity between Nigeria and Niger, urging both nations to respect their shared historical ties.

The leaders recognized Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for his relentless efforts to improve peace and security in the region and called upon him to expedite actions against the activities of notorious bandit Bello Turji, who has been a significant threat in Sokoto, Zamfara, and Katsina states.

The meeting, jointly convened by Hon. Yusuf Abubakar, Alhaji Yasir Ramadan Kano, and Engr. Mustafa Aliyu Dutsin-Ma, underscored the critical need for cooperation and dialogue among all stakeholders to secure a prosperous future for the northern region and Nigeria as a whole.
