Jigawa: One dead, groom hospitalised as bride allegedly poisons wedding guests

A groom narrowly escaped death after an alleged food poisoning incident during a wedding in Jahun LGA, Jigawa State. The incident reportedly involved the poisoning of food served to the wedding guests, resulting in the death of one guest.

Eyewitnesses have suggested that the bride’s actions may have been motivated by a personal vendetta.

Speaking to Emergency Digest reporter, the Jigawa State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the incident, adding that a thorough investigation is currently underway.

According to Shi’isu Lawan, the incident has left the wedding guests in a critical dilemma. While the bride’s friend tragically passed away, the groom is currently in critical condition.

“We have arrested two suspects in connection with the alleged food poisoning incident that occurred at the wedding ceremony,” he stated.

Shi’isu Lawan further confirmed that the bride and another bridesmaid have been arrested and are currently in custody at the Criminal Investigation Department.

Regarding the condition of the guests, he said, “All the wedding guests who consumed the poisoned food have been discharged from the hospital, except for the deceased.”

The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.

“We urge the general public to remain patient, as justice will be served,” he added.

The identities of the deceased, the groom, and other victims have not yet been disclosed by the police authority
