Navy Rescues 8 Police Officers, Civilian After Boat Capsizes in Bayelsa
The Nigerian Navy personnel has rescued nine people after their speedboat capsized in Bayelsa State.
The incident which included eight police officers and a civilian occurred on December 24, 2024, when the boat hit a submerged wreck while traveling to Yenagoa.
A statement released by Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, on Tuesday, said the personnel quickly responded to the distress call and administered first aid to the injured.

He noted that the survivors were then transferred to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa for further treatment. Three rifles belonging to the police officers were also recovered and secured.
According to him, “This successful rescue operation underscores the synergy and collaboration between the Nigerian Navy and security agencies.”
The Navy has reiterated its commitment to ensuring safety on the nation’s waterways and enhancing national security through collaboration with other stakeholders.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, commended the personnel involved in the operation for their swift response and professionalism.
