The Nigerian Police Force has reminded citizens of the consequences of failing to assist police officers in carrying out their duties, particularly during arrests.
In a statement, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, quoted Police Act 2020, said anyone who refuses or neglects to aid a police officer in arresting a suspect or preventing their escape can face a fine of N100,000 or a jail term of three months.
This warning comes as part of the police force’s efforts to educate the public about their responsibilities and obligations under the law.

“We urge all Nigerians to be aware of this provision and to cooperate fully with police officers in the discharge of their duties. By doing so, individuals can help to prevent crime, maintain public safety, and avoid potential penalties under the law,” Adejobi stated.
