Naval Troops Raid Sea Robbers’ Camp in Bayelsa, Arrest Two, Recover Arms

The Nigerian Navy personnel has raided a pirate/kidnappers’ camp in Fununu community, Brass Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, arresting two suspects and recovering a cache of arms.

The operation, which took place on Saturday, January 11, 2025, was part of the ongoing Operation DELTA SANITY II, launched by the Honourable Minister of State Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri PhD, on Monday, December 30, 2024, in Rivers State.

In a statement by Nigerian Navy’s Director of Information, Commodore Aiwiyor Adam-Aliu today in Abuja.

He said the suspected pirates/kidnappers engaged the naval personnel in a 30-minute gun duel before being overpowered.

While many criminals fled with gunshot injuries, two suspects – one male and one female – were apprehended.

He noted that the raid yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition, including One AK-56 assault rifle, three locally fabricated guns, five pump-action guns, and one foreign double-barrel gun, 68 rounds of 7.62/39mm ammunition, six rounds of 7.62/51mm NATO version ammunition, and 25 shotgun cartridges

Other were four empty AK rifle magazines, one national ID card, one Monie Point debit card, one MTB SIM card, one Itel phone, one Infinix smartphone, and the sum of N11,500

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, reiterated the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to eradicating criminal activity in Nigeria’s maritime space.
