Bauchi police bust armed robbery syndicate, arrest 2 for sodomy

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two individuals on charges of sodomy and criminal intimidation of minors.

Spokesman for the Command, Ahmed Wakili, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.

He said the arrest followed a report filed on December 30, 2024, at Tilden Fulani Divisional Police Headquarters alleging that Aminu Musa, a 41-year-old shopkeeper, had repeatedly engaged in sexual abuse of an 11-year-old boy.

The suspect, residing in Sabon Garin Narabi, was arrested after confessing to the crime, claiming that he manipulated the victim by offering food and money in exchange for his silence.

“He frequently brought food to the boy and, on several occasions, gave him money in amounts of N300, N200, and N100, respectively. He added that he used these opportunities to exploit him, believing he was ‘reaping the benefits’ of his actions,” the statement read.

Similarly, a 38-year-old businessman, Adamu Abdullahi, was nabbed for allegedly intimidating his 10-year-old child into an uncompleted building, where he forced the victim into a sexual act.

The Command’s spokesman said the incident happened on December 31, 2024.

Meanwhile, the police have dismantled an armed robbery syndicate in the state.

Acting on intelligence, police operatives apprehended two men, Abubakar Yakubu and Al-Mustapha Hassan, suspected of armed robbery.

It was gathered that police operatives, working with the Peace and Security Committee, raided the suspects’ residence on January 8.

Items recovered from the suspects included two locally-made pistols, two motorcycles, a machete, ATM cards, and other stolen items.

The suspects, who had been using firearms to rob local residents of motorcycles and household goods, admitted to selling their stolen goods in local markets.

“The suspects revealed that their primary areas of operation were the Gwallaga and Behind NIDB areas of Bauchi,” Wakili stated.

“During their robberies, they steal motorcycles and household items, such as pots, with buyers already lined up at Muda-Lawal Market. After stealing pots, they destroy and package them in kilograms for sale.

“Additionally, when they robbed motorcycles, they dismantled them into parts and sell to various buyers, also known as “Yan Bola Jari,”. The suspects were also found in possession of motorcycles, which they claimed to have bought with proceeds from their robberies,” he added.

On his part, the state Police Commissioner, Auwal Mohammed, commended the swift action of the police and urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities. (Channels TV)
