Nkechi Alli-Balogun Earns Ph.D. in Mass Communication at 60, Exemplifying Lifelong Learning in PR

Renowned public relations specialist Nkechi Ali-Balogun has achieved a remarkable milestone by earning her Doctorate in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos (Unilag). This accomplishment underscores her unwavering commitment to professional excellence and lifelong learning.

With over 25 years of experience in the public relations arena, Ali-Balogun’s decision to pursue higher education at 60+ years old challenges conventional norms and highlights her relentless drive for personal and professional growth. As the Principal Consultant at NECCI CONSULTING, she has established herself as an authority in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), crisis management, and governance.

Throughout her illustrious career, Ali-Balogun has shattered barriers and championed gender equality within the industry. Her extensive list of awards, particularly in PR practice, reflects her significant impact and pioneering contributions to the evolution of public relations in Nigeria.

As the founder of the NECCI Public Relations Roundtable and host of “Chat with NAB,” Ali-Balogun remains committed to mentoring and guiding aspiring professionals, offering invaluable insights for navigating the competitive landscape of public relations.

In an interview with Spokesperson Digest, a sister publication of PRNigeria, Ali-Balogun expressed that this achievement is a testament to her resilience and determination, especially given the rigorous demands of her academic journey at this stage of her life.

“Reflecting on this journey, I would like to express my profound gratitude to God for this significant achievement, which did not come easily. There were countless moments when I nearly gave up due to the intense demands of acquiring this degree. It was challenging, but my dogged determination and the support of dear friends have brought me here today, proudly holding a Ph.D. in Mass Communication.”

She shared valuable lessons from her experience, emphasizing that age is no barrier to success, the importance of tenacity in pursuing dreams, and the need to remain focused despite challenges. “The grace of God abounds and is sufficient,” she added.

Ali-Balogun concluded by expressing her enthusiasm for leveraging her new knowledge to further contribute to the field of mass communication, with a particular emphasis on public relations.
