In Katsina, Bandit Leaders Surrender Arms, Free 15 Captives Amid Military Offensive
Two notorious bandit leaders, Abu Radde and Umar Black, have surrendered their weapons and freed 15 captives in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
The surrender, which took place on January 19, 2025, followed intensified military operations by the combined forces of Operation FASAN YANMA. The event was attended by key stakeholders, including military representatives, to ensure transparency in the process.

During the ceremony, the bandits handed over four AK-47 rifles and released 15 captives, consisting of three men, eight women, and four children. Authorities clarified that this was not a negotiation or peace deal but a decisive step towards the bandits’ complete disarmament and the release of all kidnapped victims.
The recovered arms, which were in good condition, have been taken into custody by the 17 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, while the freed captives have been handed over to the local government authorities for rehabilitation and reintegration.
The development is seen as a significant step in the fight against banditry in Katsina State, raising hopes for increased security and stability in the region.
