NSCDC Mining Marshals Vow Crackdown on Illegal Miners, Reveal Agenda for 2025

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Mining Marshals have launched their 2025 Strategic Operational Plan, focusing on intensified field operations, strengthened regulatory compliance, and a renewed crackdown on illegal mining activities. The initiative will also enhance collaboration with the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office to ensure effective enforcement of mining regulations.

The Director-General of the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office, Engr. Obadiah Nkom, commended the Mining Marshals for their professionalism, resilience, and unwavering commitment to combating illegal mining despite numerous challenges. He described the Marshals as a “catalyst for national development”, emphasizing their role in safeguarding the nation’s mineral resources from economic saboteurs.

Nkom also praised the Corps for resisting threats, financial inducements, and external pressures, stating that their integrity and sacrifices have been instrumental in strengthening the mining sector.

“We must acknowledge the commitment of the NSCDC Mining Marshals under the leadership of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, whose transformative leadership has fortified the mining industry. The Corps remains an indomitable force combating illegal mining, which threatens our economic potential and environmental sustainability,” Nkom stated.

The Squad Commander of the Mining Marshals, AC John O. Attah, reaffirmed the Corps’ determination to intensify operations against illegal mining operators. He emphasized that the Marshals will ensure legitimate mineral titleholders have unrestricted access to their resources while tackling the environmental and community challenges posed by unauthorized mining.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Mining Cadastre Office has pledged full support for the Mining Marshals’ efforts, announcing plans to automate services, upgrade systems, and streamline license verification processes to enhance transparency and regulatory compliance.

With these measures in place, the NSCDC Mining Marshals are set to escalate enforcement actions in 2025, working closely with regulatory agencies to curb illegal mining and strengthen the mining sector’s regulatory framework.
