70 Terrorists, 3 Commanders Killed as Troops Launch Clearance Operation in N/East

Seventy terrorists and three top commanders were killed in a clearance operation launched by troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the North East region of the country

In a statement by Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations said  the operation, which commenced on January 16, 2025, aimed to dismantle the terrorist presence in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorist stronghold.

The military high command said three commanders killed during the operation were identified as TALHA (Terrorist Special Forces Commander), Mallam UMAR (Terrorist Operations Commander), and ABU YAZEED (Terrorist Brigade Commander).

He noted that the terrorists attempted to resist the troops’ advance using Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), suicide bombers, and explosive vehicles.

“However, the troops, familiar with the terrorists’ tactics, successfully thwarted these attempts and even shot down amateur drones used by the terrorists.

“Unfortunately, the operation came at a cost, with 22 troops killed in action and several others wounded”, he said.

The military has requested that the media refrain from publishing the names of the fallen troops until their next of kin have been formally notified.

Buba stressed that the operation is ongoing, and the public will be updated on further developments in due course.
