Military Operation Triggers Speculations of Turji’s Arrest
Speculation is mounting regarding the fate of Bello Turji, one of Nigeria’s most notorious bandit kingpins, following intensified military operations under Operation FANSAR YAMMA in Northwestern Nigeria.
An audio conversation obtained by PRNigeria in Hausa also claimed that the bandit leader was arrested.
Meanwhile, the military’s recent offensive has resulted in the elimination of several top bandit commanders and has reportedly dislodged Turji from his strongholds in Zamfara State. While sources indicate that he narrowly escaped with injuries, the escalating pressure on him appears to be pushing him toward the possibility of surrender.
General Christopher Gwabin Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, recently revealed that Turji has shown a willingness to lay down his arms and surrender to Nigerian troops. This development follows the deaths of his biological son, brother, and several key commanders at the hands of the military. In a significant gesture indicating his potential capitulation, Turji has reportedly released hostages previously held in his domain.

However, conflicting reports have surfaced regarding Turji’s capture. While various unofficial sources assert that he has been arrested, the Nigerian military has yet to issue an official confirmation.
Defense intelligence sources informed PRNigeria that regardless of whether Turji has been apprehended or is negotiating a surrender, his reign of terror appears to be drawing to a close.
One source stated, “There is no credible information to confirm the rumored arrest of Turji even though the ongoing offensive has severely weakened his operational capacity, with many of his fighters either killed, captured, or fleeing.
“We are closely monitoring his movements, especially concerning vulnerable individuals like women and children to escape military attacks.”
The source added, “If Turji surrenders, dismantling the extensive network of banditry in Northwestern Nigeria will necessitate sustained military pressure, improved intelligence gathering, and strategic community engagement to avert a resurgence. We will continue to monitor the situation closely.”
For now, Nigerians are left waiting for official confirmation: Has Bello Turji truly been captured by troops, or is he still at large?
