Police Recover Over 1,500 Stolen Vehicles Using e-CMR System
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has successfully recovered 1,519 stolen vehicles in the past year through its Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) Portal, with 52 recoveries made in January 2025 alone.
The Force Public Relations Officer, FPRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi disclosed this today in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
According to him, the digital system, designed to track and verify registered vehicles, has proven instrumental in curbing vehicle-related crimes across the country.
“One of the latest recoveries involved a Toyota Highlander stolen in 2021, which was found last week in Enugu State. The car had been sold to a buyer in Kano, who unknowingly submitted its details to the e-CMR system.

“The database flagged it as stolen, leading to its retrieval and subsequent legal action against those involved in its unlawful sale.” ACP Adejobi said.
He added that the e-CMR platform, a digital repository of registered motor vehicles, has recorded significant public participation, with over 400,000 vehicles registered and 1,011 stolen vehicles reported since its inception. Additionally, investigations are ongoing into 5,877 vehicles with conflicting information.
The success of the initiative is part of the Nigeria Police’s broader electronic policing strategy under the leadership of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Other tech-driven measures include the Police Rescue Me App and Police VGS Emergency App, all aimed at enhancing law enforcement efficiency.
