In January, 59 Oil Thieves Arrested, 249 Kidnapped Victims Rescued by Troops

The military high command has said troops have neutralized 358 terrorists and 431 suspected terrorists arrested in January 2025 alone.

The military also apprehended 59 oil thieves and rescued 249 kidnapped hostages, demonstrating its commitment to securing the nation.

While briefing journalists today in Abuja, Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, said 59 perpetrators of oil theft were apprehended, and 249 kidnapped hostages were rescued.

Troops also recovered 370 weapons and 4,972 ammunition, including AK47 rifles, locally fabricated guns, and assorted arms.

“In the South-South region, troops denied oil thieves the estimated sum of over N2.6 billion. The breakdown includes 2,732,038 litres of stolen crude oil, 42,515 litres of illegally refined AGO, and other items*, he said.

The military’s efforts have created conditions that assure the safety and security of citizens, Major General Buba said.
