SDP National Chairman Clarifies Misinformation, Reaffirms Party’s Commitment to Social Democracy
In response to the recent circulation of old pictures and misinformation online, the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Musa Gabam, has issued a statement to set the record straight and provide clarity on the party’s position. The images in question, which depict visits by prominent politicians to the SDP Secretariat during the elections of National Assembly leaders, have been misrepresented and require proper contextualization.
The pictures show Senator Godswill Akpabio, now Senate President; Senator Barau Jibrin, Deputy Senate President; and Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, among other members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), visiting the SDP to seek support from its elected members. Gabam emphasized that these visits were part of the normal political process, where stakeholders engage with various parties to build alliances and secure support.
However, the SDP National Chairman cautioned against the misinterpretation or manipulation of these images for propaganda purposes. He reiterated that the SDP remains steadfast in its commitment to its core values and principles, which prioritize the well-being and development of Nigerians.
Gabam highlighted the SDP’s rich history in Nigerian politics, dating back to its formation in 1989. He noted that the party is undergoing significant transformations to address the shortcomings of both the APC and the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Throughout its existence, the SDP has championed social democracy, advocating for social justice, welfare, and equitable development for all Nigerians.
