FG Disburses N32.8bn to 169,000 Students for School Fees, Allowances
The Federal Government has disbursed a total of N32.8 billion to over 169,000 students across Nigeria as part of its National Student Loan Fund (NELFUND) initiative.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, disclosed this during a Ministerial Press Briefing in Abuja, highlighting it as one of the administration’s key interventions in the education sector.
According to the Minister, the disbursement covers both tuition fees and upkeep allowances, ensuring that students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, have access to uninterrupted higher education.

He emphasized that this initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to human capital development and economic empowerment.
“Over 169,000 students have benefited from NELFUND, receiving N32.8 billion for school fees and upkeep. This is a testament to our dedication to investing in Nigeria’s future by supporting students in tertiary institutions,” Minister Idris said.
The student loan scheme was launched to ease the financial burden of higher education on Nigerian families and promote equal access to learning opportunities.
The Tinubu-led administration has also prioritized other student-focused policies, such as infrastructure development in tertiary institutions, faculty expansion, and a sustainable student loan repayment framework.
