PHOTOS: MAAUN Nigeria Hosts Unforgettable Student Week, Attracts Global Attention

Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) has once again demonstrated its unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and holistic student development by hosting a breathtaking and vibrant Student Week. The event captivated attendees and left an indelible mark on the academic world. The week-long celebration featured a thrilling blend of cultural festivities, sporting competitions, intellectual engagements, and creative performances, solidifying its place as one of the most remarkable university events in recent memory.

### **A Week of Unmatched Excellence**

From the very first day, MAAUN’s Student Week set the stage for an electrifying experience. The university campus transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural diversity, sportsmanship, and talent, as students from diverse backgrounds enthusiastically participated in a wide array of activities. The event gained an international flair when the Ambassador of the Republic of Tunisia to Nigeria, His Excellency Mohsen Antit, officially flagged off the third day’s activities during his visit to the university.

### **Event Highlights**

**DAY ONE – Football Match**

The excitement kicked off with a thrilling football competition that brought out the competitive spirit of students. The first match saw the School of Health Sciences and School of Medicine face off against the School of Computing, followed by a second match between the School of Social and Management Sciences and the School of Environmental Sciences versus the School of Nursing Sciences and School of Law. The energy, enthusiasm, and teamwork displayed on the field were a testament to the sportsmanship and unity among students.

**DAY TWO – Drama, Old School Show, Talent Show, Painting Exhibition**

Creativity took center stage on the second day, with students showcasing their artistic and dramatic talents. The Drama session featured captivating performances that addressed pressing societal issues, while the Old School Show provided a nostalgic journey through past eras. The Talent Show allowed students to exhibit unique skills, ranging from singing and dancing to spoken word performances. Meanwhile, the Painting Exhibition unveiled breathtaking artworks that reflected cultural heritage and contemporary themes.

**DAY THREE – Cooking Contest, Debate, Sack Race**

The third day was a perfect blend of intellect, culinary skills, and fun. The Cooking Contest saw students preparing both local and international delicacies, demonstrating their culinary expertise and creativity. The Debate Competition provided a platform for students to engage in thought-provoking discussions on pressing societal issues, enhancing their critical thinking and public speaking skills. The day concluded with the lighthearted Sack Race, a fun-filled competition that promoted teamwork and camaraderie.

**DAY FOUR – Cultural Display, Poetry Presentation**

Culture and literature took the spotlight on the fourth day. The Cultural Display featured traditional attires, dances, and performances that celebrated the rich diversity of MAAUN’s student body. This was followed by an inspiring Poetry Presentation, where students recited beautifully crafted poems exploring themes of identity, resilience, and hope.

**DAY FIVE – Fashion Show, Educational Presentations, Blindfold/Egg Race**

The fifth day combined elegance, knowledge, and fun. The Fashion Show dazzled attendees with a stunning array of outfits that blended modern and traditional styles, reflecting the creativity and uniqueness of MAAUN students. The Educational Presentations allowed students to share innovative ideas and research, highlighting their academic brilliance. The day concluded with the Blindfold and Egg Race, a playful activity that tested participants’ coordination and teamwork.

**DAY SIX – Founder’s Day**

The grand finale of the Student Week was Founder’s Day, a celebration of MAAUN’s achievements and aspirations. The day began with the Football Final Match, where the top teams competed for the championship title. The Colour Festival added vibrancy to the celebration, as students reveled in a sea of colors. The evening featured Eulogy and Poem Presentations, honoring the university’s legacy. The highlight of the night was the Founder’s Song Performance by renowned artist Nura M. Inuwa, leaving attendees in awe and admiration.

### **The Visionary Founder and Leadership Team**

The Student Week was made even more special by the unwavering presence of Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, the Founder and President of MAAUN, alongside his dedicated leadership team. Throughout the week, Professor Gwarzo engaged with students, inspiring them to embrace innovation, leadership, and academic excellence. His hands-on involvement in football matches, cultural events, and academic discussions underscored MAAUN’s commitment to fostering a holistic learning environment that extends beyond the classroom.

### **Spectacular Closing Ceremony**

The Student Week concluded with a grand closing ceremony, featuring fireworks, live performances, and an award presentation recognizing outstanding participants. Students, faculty, and guests were treated to a night of celebration, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

The ceremony was graced by prominent guests, including academics, government officials, and industry leaders, who commended MAAUN for organizing such a dynamic and impactful event. In his closing speech, Professor Gwarzo emphasized the importance of resilience, creativity, and unity, urging students to carry the lessons learned during the week into their future endeavors.

MAAUN’s Student Week was more than just an event; it was a celebration of talent, diversity, and leadership. The university provided a platform for students to express themselves, build meaningful connections, and develop crucial life skills.
