NCS Intercepts 460,000 liters of Petrol, Deploys Technology for Anti-Smuggling Operations
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS’) commitment to leveraging advanced technology in border surveillance.
He emphasized that the innovation will enhance smuggling interceptions, minimize collateral damage, and improve operational efficiency.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin, Kwara State, Adeniyi explained how modern technology is improving the agency’s ability to track and intercept smugglers, while reducing unintended disruptions.
He also reiterated the NCS’ dedication to transparency, particularly through the direct auctioning of seized goods.
The customs boss further highlighted the success of Operation Whirlwind, which recently led to the seizure of over 460,000 liters of smuggled Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and the arrest of seven suspects.
He applauded customs officers deployed for the special operation for their professionalism.
He also urged Nigerians to support efforts to curb smuggling and promote legitimate trade, while reinforcing customs’ role in securing national borders and ensuring economic stability.
