Police Launch Crackdown on Scavengers in Ogun
Ogun State Police Command has vowed to crack down on scavengers, who have been destroying infrastructure and stealing property across the state.
The command’s spokesperson CSP Omolola Odutola, said the police are committed to putting an end to these nefarious activities.
This development comes as the police continue to tackle various security challenges in the state, including attacks on commercial motorcyclists.
Odutola said the crackdown becomes necessary following a recent arrest of a scavenger involving in stealing at Itele-Awori.
She explained that the scavenger was apprehended while unlawfully removing some window glasses with aluminium frames from a building.

“The members of the community assisted in apprehending the suspect, who was then handed over to the police.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and is currently in police custody,” she said.
The command’s spokesperson said that the suspect would be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
She said command had intensified monitoring of scavengers, particularly those who engage in criminal activities under the guise of scrap dealing.
Odutola implored residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
She reiterated the commitment of the police to ensuring the safety of lives and property while taking decisive action against criminals operating under any disguise.
