Nigeria Customs Deploys Geospatial Technology for Border Surveillance
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified its border security operations by deploying Geospatial technology to enhance surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement across Nigeria’s land and maritime borders.
The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed this during a strategic meeting with the National Security Adviser (NSA), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, on Thursday.
He emphasized that adopting advanced technology aligns with international best practices and will significantly strengthen Nigeria’s border management system.

“Technology remains the key to effective border management in today’s rapidly evolving security landscape. The Nigeria Customs Service is committed to deploying Geospatial technology and other innovative tools to enhance our surveillance, intelligence gathering, and enforcement capabilities,” Adeniyi said.
He further explained that the initiative is aimed at curbing smuggling, human trafficking and other cross-border crimes while facilitating legitimate trade and boosting economic growth.
Commending the Customs modernization drive, Mal. Ribadu acknowledged the impact of technology in securing Nigeria’s borders.
“The Customs Service has demonstrated a commendable commitment to modernisation and efficiency. Integrating advanced technology into border management is a step in the right direction and aligns perfectly with our broader national security objectives,” Ribadu said.
The NSA assured the CGC of full support in driving the Customs’ modernization agenda, stressing the importance of intelligence sharing and operational synergy in securing the nation’s borders.
