Tragedy struck in Kwara State as the leader of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sakaina, was gunned down by unknown assailants in front of his residence in Oke Ose, Ilorin.
The fatal attack occurred around 10:00 pm on Saturday, with witnesses reporting that the gunmen fled the scene without taking any valuables, leaving the 32-year-old victim in a pool of blood. The motive behind the assassination remains unclear.
A close associate, Aina’u Sarki, expressed shock over the incident, stating, “I was with him just 20 minutes before he was killed. Then I received a call informing me that he had been shot dead.”
Confirming the development, the Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Inter-Community Relations (Fulani Affairs), Muhammed Abdullahi, said, “He was shot in front of his house on Saturday night. The police have begun investigations, and we are currently preparing for his funeral.”
The Kwara State Police Command is yet to provide an official statement, as its spokesperson, Ejire-Adeyemi Toun, had not responded to inquiries at the time of this report.
The late Sakaina was not only a prominent figure in the Fulani community but had also served as a Special Assistant to the Chairman of Moro Local Government. His assassination has raised concerns over security in the state, with many calling for a swift and thorough investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.
