Interior Ministry, Army Resource Centre Partner to Strengthen Nigeria’s Security Framework

Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister of Interior, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s dedication to reforming and reinforcing Nigeria’s internal security apparatus through collaborative efforts and innovative changes.

During a strategic meeting with the management of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre (NARC) in Abuja, the Minister stressed the urgent need to revamp the nation’s paramilitary agencies to effectively tackle the growing and complex security challenges of today.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo outlined his vision for transforming the internal security landscape, calling for a fundamental shift in the country’s security architecture. “We must reposition our paramilitary agencies to fulfill their essential roles and ensure a secure, stable nation,” he stated.

As part of the administration’s plans under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Dr. Tunji-Ojo revealed key priorities, including conducting a skill audit of paramilitary personnel, developing a specialized curriculum for the proposed National Paramilitary Academy, and establishing a promotion system based on merit and performance.

The Minister emphasized the importance of comprehensive training programs to bolster the capabilities of paramilitary officers, asserting that promotions within the ranks would be strictly based on competence and achievements. “Our approach will be strategic, fair, and focused on building a reliable, effective system,” he added.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged all stakeholders to support these critical reforms, saying, “Under the leadership of President Tinubu, we are committed to creating a security system that will stand the test of time. This is our moment to act, and we must be bold in doing what is necessary for the nation’s future.”

Major General G. A. Wahab (rtd), Director-General of the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, expressed his support for the Ministry’s reform agenda. He highlighted the Centre’s expertise in research, human capacity development, and consultancy, noting successful partnerships with international institutions such as King’s College London, Harvard University, and Nigeria’s Department of State Services (DSS).

“We are excited to collaborate with the Ministry of Interior in establishing a world-class academy to enhance leadership, strategic planning, and training for paramilitary agencies,” General Wahab said. “Our collective goal is to build a well-equipped and skilled workforce capable of addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges.”
