Rivers State Police Arrest Five Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Arms and Ammunition
In a significant breakthrough, the Rivers State Police Command has arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition. The operation, conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit on March 8, 2025, followed a series of kidnapping incidents in the Rukpokwu, Igwuruta, Omagwa, and Etche areas.
Acting on actionable intelligence, the police launched a coordinated operation at approximately 09:30 am, which lasted for eight hours. The suspects arrested are:
1. Mohammadu Bello, 30, from Padiki LGA, Kwara State, residing in Rukpokwu.
2. Suleman Umar, 26, from Hadeja LGA, Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.
3. Bello Amadu, 35, from Keffi-Hausa LGA, Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.
4. Adamu Musa, 30, from Hadeja LGA, Jigawa State, residing in Rukpokwu.
5. Abubakar Mohammed, 22, from Azare LGA, Bauchi State, residing in Rukpokwu.

During interrogation, the suspects confessed to multiple kidnapping activities, including the brutal murder of the Chief Security Officer (CSO) of the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Omagwa and his son.
The police recovered the following items from the suspects:
– Two AK-47 rifles
– Six AK-47 magazines
– Sixty-six rounds of ammunition
– Three locally made pistols
– Ten live cartridges
– Several mobile phones and SIM cards
The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. The Rivers State Police Command is continuing its efforts to uncover further details of the syndicate’s activities and to arrest other members who are still at large.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, reiterated the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents. She assured the public that further updates on the investigation would be provided in due course.
