Customs Launches Scheme to Renovate Schools, Build Clinics, Provide Aid to Nigerians

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has launched a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit to spearhead impactful programs under its newly-introduced “Customs-Cares” initiative.

This initiative aims to deepen community engagement and national development.

The Customs-Cares program will drive key social interventions, including school renovations, activation of mobile clinics, provision of food and medical aid, agricultural support, skills acquisition programs and youth empowerment.

This expansion marks a shift beyond the Service’s traditional mandates of trade facilitation, revenue generation and border security, while reinforcing its commitment to national progress.

According to Abdullahi Maiwada, Assistant Comptroller of Customs and National Public Relations Officer of the agency, the CSR Unit will collaborate with government agencies, private sector partners, NGOs, and local communities to ensure the success of these programs.

Under the leadership of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, the initiative aligns with Presidential Priority Areas and seeks to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The NCS envisions these community-driven interventions as a means to enhance public trust, improve community relations and elevate the well-being of Nigerians.

The NCS urges officers, stakeholders and the public to actively participate in driving sustainable change, as its Customs-Cares program rolls out nationwide.
