Nigerian Troops Ambush Terrorists Near Abuja-Kaduna Highway, Neutralize Three in Successful Operation

In a decisive operation on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, Nigerian troops from Sub-Sector 4 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA ambushed and neutralized three violent extremists and insurgents (VEIs) near Ngwagi Hill, Gwagwada Community, off the Kaduna-Abuja Highway in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The operation, which was carried out based on credible intelligence, marks a significant victory in the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and insurgency in the region.

Acting on reports of suspicious movements by the VEIs near Ngwagi Hill, troops were swiftly deployed on a long-range patrol to intercept the insurgents at a likely crossing point. By 5:30 PM on the same day, the troops had positioned themselves strategically and successfully launched the ambush, resulting in the elimination of three armed members of the criminal group.

The operation also yielded a significant recovery of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 rifles, eight AK-47 rifle magazines, 374 rounds of 7.62mm x 39 special ammunition, and 88 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 NATO ammunition. Additionally, troops seized an Infinix mobile phone, medical supplies, clothing, and dry rations, further disrupting the operational capabilities of the insurgents.

The success of the operation has been attributed to the high morale and combat efficiency of the troops, as well as the effective collaboration between the military and intelligence agencies. The timely and accurate intelligence provided by these agencies played a crucial role in the planning and execution of the mission.

Major General Mayirenso Lander David Saraso, the General Officer Commanding 1 Division Nigerian Army and Commander of Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA, praised the troops for their resilience and successful execution of the operation. He urged them to remain vigilant and continue their efforts until all criminal elements within the division’s area of responsibility are completely neutralized.

This operation underscores the Nigerian military’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of citizens along the critical Abuja-Kaduna corridor, which has been a hotspot for terrorist activities in recent years. The recovery of weapons and supplies further weakens the operational capacity of insurgent groups, contributing to the broader goal of restoring peace and stability in the region.
