Army Chief Tasks Battalion Commanders to Step Up Security Efforts

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged Battalion Commanders of the Nigerian Army (NA) to tackle emerging security threats head-on, demonstrating exemplary leadership in commanding their troops.¹

 At he First Commanding Officers’ Workshop for 2025, held at the Headquarters 2 Division Nigerian Army, General Oluyede stressed the critical role Battalion Commanders play in bridging operational and tactical levels of command.

 

In a statement by  Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director Army Public Relations yesterday in Abuja.

 He said the COAS urged them to showcase essential leadership qualities, including responsibility, accountability, and moral courage, to effectively lead their troops in battle and peacetime.

The COAS praised the workshop’s theme, “Enhancing Tactical Level Command and Leadership Within a Joint Environment,” as apt and aligned with his Command Philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army. He expressed gratitude to President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to the NA.

 

During his address to troops at the Garrison Parade Ground, General Oluyede commended their sacrifices in combating security challenges and urged them to remain steadfast and professional.

He highlighted ongoing welfare initiatives, including improved accommodations, access to soft loan schemes, and increased allowances.

 

As part of his welfare schemes, the COAS commissioned the 2 Division Petroleum, Oil and Lubricants (POL) Station and a Military Police Holding Facility.

 

He also approved the rehabilitation of the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess and the 81 Battalion Officers’ Mess.
