Customs CG Calls for Collective Action in Alleviating Hardship During Ramadan

In the spirit of Ramadan, the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Dr. Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has called on Nigerians both Muslims and non-Muslims to extend a helping hand to the less privileged, emphasizing the importance of communal support during the holy month.

Speaking at the Al-Habibiyya Islamic Society (AIS) iftar and daily feeding programme in Abuja, where over 2,700 individuals benefit from free meals, Adeniyi personally served food to worshippers and other attendees. He commended the initiative as a true reflection of Islamic teachings that prioritize care for the vulnerable.

“This is an injunction from Almighty Allah. Fasting is not just about abstaining from food but also about sharing with those in need. Many people are fasting without knowing how they will break their fast, and this reality calls for more structured and disciplined charitable efforts across the country,” he stated.

Adeniyi urged affluent individuals, religious groups, and corporate organizations to emulate Al-Habibiyya’s humanitarian outreach, stressing that such initiatives foster social cohesion and reduce economic hardship.

The National Chief Imam of AIS, Sheik Fuad Adeyemi, and Chairman of the Al-Habibiyya Food Bank, Alhaji Faruq Suleiman, reiterated that the programme is open to all, regardless of religious background, underscoring the need for unity and compassion in addressing hunger and poverty.

The event not only showcased the importance of structured philanthropy but also served as a call to action for Nigerians to embrace discipline, planning, and generosity in improving social welfare.
