Kano Police Nab 10 Suspects for Kidnapping, Armed Robbery, Recover N4.85m, Weapons

Kano State Police Command has arrested 10 suspects involved in kidnapping and armed robbery, recovering a total of ₦4.85 million, firearms, and ammunition.

PRNigeria reports that the arrests follow intensified security measures under the leadership of the newly appointed Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as part of efforts to curb criminal activities in the state.

The police disclosed the arrests in a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on Friday, March 21, 2025.

According to the statement, the breakthrough operations included the arrest of two armed robbery suspects at Badawa Layout on March 18, 2025. The duo—Awwal Hassan Ibrahim (29) and Suleiman Umar (24)—were caught with a Beretta pistol loaded with two rounds of 9mm live ammunition after attempting to rob a residence.

In another operation on the same day, Shuaibu Yakubu (25), alias Dan Bula Bula, was intercepted while driving a stolen Pontiac Vibe in Kano. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with 12 rounds of live ammunition. The suspect later confessed to involvement in multiple robbery cases in Kano and Abuja.

Similarly, on March 19, 2025, the police arrested Friday Bitrus (38) and Daniel Samuel (25) of Zango Quarters, Kano. The duo was found in possession of a locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and a sharp axe.

Meanwhile, the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad successfully rescued Muhammad Bello (21), who was abducted on March 8, 2025, in Zakirai Town, Gabasawa LGA. His captors had demanded a ₦15 million ransom. After a week-long intelligence-led operation, five suspects were apprehended which included Tukur Lawal (20), alias Maikudi, Ado Usman (30), alias Ruwa, Sunusi Surajo (27), Ummulkhairi Ibrahim (19) and Habiba Shuaibu (18).

The police recovered a Dane gun used in the crime and a cash sum of ₦4.85 million from the suspects.

Meanwhile, Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operations and reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.

All suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged in court after the completion of investigations.
