Rivers Administrator Ibas Vows to Restore Order, Reads Riot Act to Saboteurs

Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd) has officially assumed office as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, pledging to restore order, stabilize governance, and ensure the smooth return of democratic institutions.

Addressing the state in a televised broadcast on Thursday night, Ibas made it clear that his administration would not tolerate acts of sabotage, lawlessness, or violence.

“Those who seek to destabilize the state—whether through economic sabotage, destruction of public infrastructure, or inciting unrest—will find no room for their actions,” he stated. “We will enforce the law decisively to maintain civil order, ensuring justice and fairness.”

His arrival follows the National Assembly’s approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s proclamation of emergency rule in Rivers, a move the President hailed as a patriotic step toward restoring stability.

Upon landing at Port Harcourt International Airport aboard a Naval Bombardier aircraft, Ibas was received by military officials and later inspected a quarter guard mounted in his honor.

He proceeded to hold a series of strategic meetings with top state officials, including the Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries, and security chiefs. Notably, Ojukaye Flag Amachree, the Director of Energy Security in the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA), was also present at the meeting.

Commending the residents for maintaining peace amid the political upheaval, Ibas assured them of his commitment to security and stability.

“Port Harcourt is my city, and while things seem calm, our goal is to restore it fully to the vibrant and peaceful state it has always been,” he emphasized.

Meanwhile, the embattled and suspended Governor Siminalayi Fubara has distanced himself from allegations of involvement in oil pipeline bombings, following an indictment by Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi.

The emergency rule proclamation was ratified by both the Senate and House of Representatives in a closed-door session, with lawmakers approving it unanimously through a voice vote.

With Ibas now in control, all eyes are on his administration to navigate Rivers State through this turbulent period and lay the groundwork for a stable political transition.
