FCT Security Operatives Rescue Naval Officer, Arrest Suspects
The Police Command of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), in collaboration with military forces, has successfully rescued a kidnapped naval officer and two civilians who were abducted by gunmen in Mpape, Abuja, on March 21, 2025.
This information was released in a statement by the FCT Police Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh.
SP Adeh revealed that at approximately 7:35 PM on the specified date, heavily armed assailants attacked the Maman Vatsa Estate gate, blocked Mpape Road, and opened fire on passing vehicles before abducting the three victims.
Shortly after the attack, the kidnappers contacted the victims’ families, demanding a ransom of ₦500 million for the naval officer and ₦200 million each for the two civilians.

“Upon receiving the distress report, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) for the FCT Police Command, DCP Isyaku Sharu, mobilized a joint operation in collaboration with military authorities,” SP Adeh stated. “The operation was led by the Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and included personnel from the Nigerian military, the Department of State Services (DSS), hunters, and members of the local Hunters’ Group.”
An intense search-and-rescue operation ensued, focusing on areas in Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, which spanned both the FCT and Nasarawa State.
Acting on credible intelligence, operatives traced the suspects to a Fulani resettlement site in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM on March 23, 2025, where four suspects were apprehended and the victims were rescued unharmed. Additionally, ₦3.2 million, believed to be ransom money from previous kidnapping operations, was recovered from the suspects.
SP Adeh confirmed that the victims are in stable condition and are currently receiving medical attention at the Nigerian Army Clinic. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the remaining suspects who are still at large.
“Security deployments have been reinforced in Mpape and surrounding areas to prevent future incidents,” she added, encouraging the public to continue their daily activities without fear.
