Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Advocates Diplomatic Solutions to Gaza Conflict

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has called for stronger diplomatic efforts to resolve the ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine.

Speaking during a high-level meeting in Madrid with his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares, Tuggar emphasized the urgent need for peaceful resolutions and the role of international cooperation in achieving global stability.

The discussions, held within the framework of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028, provided a platform for both ministers to exchange views on pressing geopolitical issues.

Tuggar reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to supporting diplomatic initiatives that promote peace, stability, and adherence to international law.

He stressed that lasting solutions to these crises require sustained dialogue, multilateral engagement, and respect for humanitarian principles.

Beyond global conflicts, the meeting also focused on strengthening Spain-Nigeria relations through a newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations.

The agreement establishes a mechanism for regular dialogue, aiming to deepen bilateral cooperation on economic development, security, energy, education, and climate change initiatives.

Both ministers acknowledged the significance of the partnership between Spain and Nigeria, particularly in addressing regional security challenges in West Africa.

Tuggar underscored the role of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in maintaining stability and fostering economic growth in the region.
