NSCDC Intercepts Truck Loaded with 70,000 Liters Stolen Crude Oil in Port Harcourt

In a decisive operation to curb crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism in the Niger Delta, the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad (CG’s SIS) of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has impounded a caravan truck with an in-built tank fully loaded with stolen crude oil.

Acting on an intelligence tip-off, the NSCDC operatives intercepted the truck while it was in transit around Eleme Flyover in Elelewon, Port Harcourt. The truck, a red-head navy blue container vehicle with registration number AGL574XY, was found to be carrying an estimated 70,000 litres of siphoned crude oil, allegedly drawn illegally from vandalized wellheads and pipelines.

Speaking on the operation, the Commander of the CG’s SIS, Commandant AS Dandaura, disclosed that upon approaching the crime scene, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled.

“The exhibits have been confiscated, and investigations are ongoing to track down the syndicate responsible for this act of economic sabotage,” he said.

Dandaura further stated that following a thorough investigation, the NSCDC would seek a court order for the forfeiture of the truck and its contents. The proceeds from the forfeiture, he added, would be deposited into the Proceeds of Crime Account (POCA) in accordance with legal provisions.

Reaffirming the NSCDC’s commitment to combating crude oil theft, the CG’s SIS Commander assured that efforts would be intensified to dismantle oil theft networks and bring perpetrators to justice.

The operation underscores the agency’s ongoing crackdown on illegal dealings in petroleum products, reinforcing the NSCDC’s resolve to protect Nigeria’s critical national assets.
