Police Mandate Advance Notification for Camping, Hiking in FCT
The Federal Capital Territorty FCT) Police Command has introduced new guidelines for camping and hiking activities in response to growing security concerns.
According to Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Ajao, individuals and groups must now notify law enforcement prior to embarking on such activities.
This directive, which aims to mitigate the risks associated with remote and unsecured locations, which are often vulnerable to security threats.
“Failing to inform the police before engaging in such outdoor activities increases vulnerability to criminal threats,” he stated.

The police urge organisers to liaise with law enforcement to obtain guidance on safe routes and necessary security arrangements.
According to the Command, prior notification allows officers to provide expert advice and, where necessary, ensure proper monitoring and protection for participants.
The Police stressed the importance of accountability, urging organizers to keep track of all participants to prevent cases of missing persons or unforeseen incidents.
“Effective communication with law enforcement, both before and during these activities, is crucial for swift response in emergencies.
“Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activities and seek security coverage by contacting the FCT Police Command,”he said.
