AUDA-NEPAD Expands Footprint with New National Office in Republic of Congo

In a major push to deepen Africa’s development agenda, the African Union Development Agency-NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) has signed a landmark agreement with the Government of the Republic of Congo to establish a National Office in Brazzaville.

The agreement, signed by AUDA-NEPAD’s CEO, Nardos Bekele-Thomas, and His Excellency Guy Nestor Itoua, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is set to boost technical support and accelerate development initiatives across key sectors such as health, infrastructure, agriculture, and industrialization.

“This Agreement marks a pivotal moment for AUDA-NEPAD and our collaboration with the Government of the Republic of Congo,” said Bekele-Thomas. “The establishment of this National Office reinforces our commitment to providing tailored technical support to our Member States. It is a testament to our shared vision of advancing sustainable development, empowering communities, and accelerating growth across Africa.”

The Brazzaville office will serve as a vital hub under the AUDA-NEPAD Footprint Structure initiative, designed to embed AUDA-NEPAD’s expertise within national governments. The initiative is part of the agency’s broader mission to strengthen African Union (AU) Member States’ capacity to implement priority projects, aligning with the Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan (STYIP) of Agenda 2063.

The Republic of Congo is among 48 Member States already sensitized and trained on Agenda 2063’s domestication tools, which will be leveraged to drive impactful development programs.

The new National Office is expected to facilitate stronger collaboration between AUDA-NEPAD and the Republic of Congo, ensuring better coordination of policies and projects that address pressing socio-economic challenges.

By embedding expertise directly within national institutions, AUDA-NEPAD aims to enhance local capacity, promote sustainable development, and accelerate economic transformation.
