In a series of violent attacks across Nigeria, two soldiers were ambushed in Kaduna, a pastor was assaulted in Plateau, and a bandits raid in Katsina left one dead and three injured, PRNigeria reports.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security expert stated that the first attack occurred on April 2, 2025, at Babar Saura in Kaduna, where two soldiers from the 312 Battalion Kalapanzi Barracks were attacked by three gunmen armed with sophisticated weapons.
Intelligence sources revealed that the assailants shot the soldiers, resulting in the death of Corporal James (surname unknown) and injuries to Private Ibrahim Bazalla. The attackers made away with two AK-47 rifles before fleeing. Despite swift efforts to save them, Corporal James was confirmed dead at the 44 Army Reference Hospital, while Private Bazalla is receiving medical treatment.

It was gathered that in response, security operatives, including the military, police, and vigilante groups, launched a coordinated operation that led them to Degel, Kaduna. The attackers abandoned a silver Toyota Corolla and, in an attempt to escape, hijacked a white Toyota Venza from a civilian, Abdullahi Mohammed, of Badarawa, Kaduna. Efforts to apprehend the suspects and recover the stolen vehicle remain ongoing.
On the other hand, bandits launched another assault in Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State on the evening of April 1. The attack targeted Bajat and Dole villages, where armed assailants opened fire around 6:30 PM. The onslaught claimed the life of Nura Baushe, a local vigilante commander, while three others—Amadu Dole, Surajo Shehu, and Shafiu Sulaiman—sustained gunshot wounds.
The victims were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina for urgent medical attention. The body of the deceased was later handed over to his family for burial.
Meanwhile, in Plateau State, another violent incident unfolded on April 1 in Bokkos Local Government Area as Pastor Amusa James Maren of Laka Manguna District was ambushed by suspected armed herders while returning from Daffo Market.
The attackers brutally assaulted him before throwing him into a mining pit near a river between Josho Village in Daffo District and Tahore Village in Manguna District.
On April 2, villagers from Tamiso Tuje responded to the pastor’s cries for help and attempted to rescue him. However, gunmen opened fire, fatally shooting 44-year-old Kuchai Isah.
However, security forces in Plateau acted swiftly, arresting two suspects in connection with the attack. Authorities have since reinforced security in the area as investigations continue.
