JUST IN: Police caution against looming nationwide protests, give reason
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has issued a stern warning against a planned nationwide protest by a group identified as the Take It Back Movement, describing the timing as “ill-advised and mischievous.”
According to a press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the protest is slated for Monday, April 7, 2025—coinciding with the National Police Day recently declared by the Federal Government to honour the dedication and sacrifices of police officers across the country.
While affirming the NPF’s recognition of citizens’ constitutional rights to peaceful assembly, the statement expressed deep concerns over the motive behind staging a protest on the same day when the country is set to celebrate the contributions of the Police Force to national security.

“It is a glamorous event that would bring together dignitaries from all spheres of life, including foreign Inspector-Generals of Police and diplomats. The rationale behind staging a nationwide protest on this day is questionable and perceived as a deliberate attempt to malign the image of the Nigeria Police and the nation as a whole,” the statement read.
The NPF urged the organizers to reconsider and shelve the planned protest, emphasizing that the protest’s timing appears to be a calculated attempt to disrupt and overshadow a significant national event aimed at appreciating the efforts of the Police.
Reiterating its commitment to professionalism and upholding the law, the NPF, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, advised protesters to instead explore dialogue and engage appropriate government institutions to address their grievances.
The statement concludes with a call for restraint and patriotism, urging all intending protesters to act responsibly in the nation’s interest.
