Bandits kill 24, injure dozens in Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara separate attacks
A series of deadly bandit attacks swept across parts of Northern Nigeria between April 5 and 6, 2025, resulting in at least 24 fatalities, several injuries, and widespread destruction in Katsina, Kebbi, and Zamfara States, PRNigeria learnt.
The violence began on the night of April 5 in Maikwama village, Dandume Local Government Area of Katsina State, where armed assailants riding motorcycles stormed the community around 11:05 PM.
According to Zagazola, intelligence sources reported that the attackers opened fire indiscriminately, killing four villagers and wounding two others. Security forces engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle, forcing a retreat. The injured victims were transported to a nearby medical facility for treatment as authorities launched a manhunt for the fleeing criminals.
Barely 24 hours later, on April 6 at approximately 11:30 PM, another deadly raid occurred in Unguwar Doruwar near Kunduru in Kankia LGA, also in Katsina. Armed bandits, again on motorcycles, rustled cattle and opened fire on residents, killing three people and injuring two others.

The wounded were rushed to the Federal Teaching Hospital in Katsina, where they remain under medical observation. Although security forces quickly mobilized to the scene, the assailants had already escaped.
Meanwhile, Kebbi State witnessed one of the deadliest attacks in the region on the same day. Armed men, suspected to be members of the Lakurawa bandit group, raided Tungan Taura and Tungan Ladan villages in Augie LGA, rustling cattle and engaging in a deadly confrontation with local vigilantes and residents. The clash left sixteen people dead, with their bodies transported to General Hospital Argungu for autopsy. Troops were swiftly deployed to the area, and security operations are ongoing.
Elsewhere in Zamfara State, bandits led by the notorious kingpin “Ado Alero” attacked Keta town in Tsafe LGA on April 6 around 11:00 a.m. During the assault, one vigilante member was killed while trying to repel the attackers. The bandits also set ablaze nine parked Golf vehicles, causing extensive property damage. Intelligence reports indicate that one of the assailants was shot dead as the group withdrew following resistance from local defenders.
These coordinated attacks have heightened concerns over the worsening security situation in Northern Nigeria, prompting renewed calls for intensified military operations and improved community-based defense systems. Authorities in the affected states have assured residents of ongoing efforts to restore peace and bring the perpetrators to justice.
