China Pledges Support as Abia Police Intensify Manhunt for Abductors of Chinese Nationals

As pressure mounts to rescue kidnapped Chinese nationals in Abia State, the Republic of China has stepped up its diplomatic engagement with Nigerian security agencies, PRNigeria reports.

This is just as Mr. Bai Jianusen, Chief of the Consular Section at the Chinese Embassy, paid a solidarity visit to the Abia State Police Command, signaling Beijing’s growing concern over the rising threat to its citizens in Nigeria.

Mr. Bai’s visit followed the recent abduction of several Chinese nationals in the state—a grim incident that also claimed the life of a Nigerian police officer during an attempt to thwart the kidnappers. Received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations (Dops), the Chinese envoy conveyed condolences for the fallen officer and reiterated his government’s deep unease about the safety of its citizens working in Nigeria.

Zagazola reported that Mr. Bai commended the Abia Police for their swift mobilization and ongoing efforts to secure the release of the hostages. He also emphasized China’s willingness to assist in the investigation by providing any intelligence or resources that may contribute to a breakthrough in the case.

In response, the Deputy Commissioner assured the delegation of the command’s unwavering commitment to the safety of all foreign nationals, particularly the large community of Chinese workers and investors in Abia. He revealed that patrols had been intensified and surveillance boosted around key areas where foreign nationals reside or operate.

A key highlight of the visit was Mr. Bai’s closed-door meeting with the Special Investigating Team—popularly known as the Jaguar Squad, is a tactical unit created specifically to pursue the kidnappers. The team has been actively working to gather intelligence, track suspects, and ensure the safe rescue of the abducted individuals.

As investigations continue, both Nigerian authorities and the Chinese government appear aligned in their determination to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent future incidents. The Chinese delegation expressed appreciation for the collaborative approach and pledged continued diplomatic and logistical support as the search for the kidnapped nationals intensifies.
