Military Debunks Ransom Payment Claim in General Tsiga’s Rescue
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has clarified that the recent release of former National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Director General, Brigadier General Mahrazu Tsiga, was facilitated by military operations and not through ransom payment.
This clarification comes after an article by Brigadier General Ismaila Abdullahi suggested that military generals contributed money to secure Tsiga’s release.
According to the DHQ, troops of Operation Fansan Yamma embarked on a Search and Rescue Operation to secure Tsiga’s release. The operation involved kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, including air and ground operations in various locations across Katsina and Zamfara states.
A statement by Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, Director Defence Information on Monday in Abuja, said, troops successfully pressured the abductors, leading to the escape of several captives, although Tsiga was unable to escape due to health concerns.
He said on February 6, 2025 Tsiga was abducted in Tsiga, Kafur District of Bakori Local Government Area in Katsina State.

According to him, “On February 8, 2025, Troops intensified their manhunt for the abductors and conducted dawn attacks at Yankuzo and Gidan Dankaka in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
“Disrupted the terrorists, leading to the escape of several captives.
The military described the article as “an act of mischief” aimed at undermining the dedicated efforts of military personnel to eradicate terrorists and other criminal elements from the North West region.
The DHQ emphasized that the military operations, comprising both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, facilitated Tsiga’s rescue.
“The military operations comprising both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies facilitated the rescue of General Tsiga as his life is invaluable and anything that needed to be done to ensure he was safe was adopted in ensuring a successful Search and Rescue effort,” he said.
He commended the troops for their efforts and encouraged the general public to continue supporting troops by providing credible intelligence to assist in their operations.
