The National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has carried out a comprehensive quality assurance exercise at the Nigerian Army College of Environmental Science and Technology (NACEST), Makurdi. The three-day exercise, which took place from April 2 to 4, included resource inspection, accreditation, and re-accreditation of various academic programmes.

A statement by the spokesperson of NACEST, Major Yahaya Arama Ibrahim said the exercise forms part of the NBTE’s statutory mandate to regulate and uphold the standards of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across Nigeria. During the visit, the NBTE team evaluated NACEST’s academic programmes, infrastructure, equipment, and human resources to ensure compliance with national standards.

Speaking during the visit, the Acting Rector of NACEST, Brigadier General Solomon Inuwa, welcomed the NBTE team led by Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar, Director of Polytechnic Programmes. He expressed appreciation for their efforts in maintaining quality across TVET institutions. Brigadier General Inuwa highlighted the College’s contribution to bridging the skilled manpower gap in both the Nigerian Army and the broader national economy.

“Our graduates are not only performing excellently as commissioned officers in the Nigerian Army but are also making significant impacts in the private and public sectors,” he said. He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, for the growth of the College and the successful hosting of the accreditation exercise.

In her remarks, Dr. Fatima Kabir Umar emphasized the importance of accreditation as a cornerstone of NBTE’s quality assurance framework. She explained that the process ensures that institutions meet the minimum standards required to produce globally competitive graduates.

“This accreditation exercise is guided by our Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) manual, which provides detailed guidelines on programme registration, resource inspection, accreditation, and re-accreditation,” Dr. Umar noted. She added that the outcome of the visit would determine whether NACEST’s programmes will be accredited or re-accredited.

Dr. Umar commended the College management and staff for their preparedness and hospitality during the visit. She urged the institution to act on the observations made during the exercise to enhance the quality of its programmes and operations.

The visit concluded with the presentation of the NBTE’s 2025 Quality Assurance Report and the exchange of souvenirs between the NBTE team and the College leadership.
