BREAKING: Military Launch “Operation Munzo” in Zamfara, Eliminate Bandits’ Kingpin Mati, Fighters, Destroy Enclaves

In a decisive military offensive against terror strongholds in Zamfara State, Nigerian troops have launched Operation Munzo, a high-impact clearance operation that has led to the elimination of a notorious terror kingpin, Mati, and dozens of his fighters, PRNigeria reports.

The operation, under the command of Headquarters Operation Forest Yakin (HQOPFY), commenced from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Bagega, Anka Local Government Area, with troops advancing through Tibuki and Sabuwar Tunga in a push toward the insurgents’ heavily fortified camps.

Sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the troops met stiff resistance from the terrorists who unleashed a barrage of firepower, including rocket-propelled grenades and support weapons. However, the military responded with overwhelming force, neutralizing a significant number of combatants during the intense exchange.

According to Zagazola, top on the kill list was the dreaded bandit leader, Mati, long believed to be behind a series of deadly attacks and abductions across the region. His death marks a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to reclaim the North West from the grip of criminal elements.

Weapons recovered from the operation included one PKT rifle with 90 rounds of 7.62mm NATO ammunition, five AK-47 rifles, 12 magazines loaded with 487 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and three Baofeng radios with chargers. Security forces also seized military and police uniforms, motorcycles, and destroyed rustled livestock.

The terrorists’ main base, including their logistics and life-support structures, was completely destroyed in the raid. Three of their motorcycles were torched, and the entire camp was leveled by fire.

Despite the intensity of the confrontation, only two military vehicles sustained minor damage, while a Special Boat Service (SBS) soldier was wounded and later stabilized.

In a related incident, logistics vehicles en route from FOB Bagega to FOB Dan Gulbi were ambushed near a bridge around 9:15 a.m., but troops swiftly repelled the attackers with no recorded fatalities. One soldier sustained injuries and is recovering.

“Operation Munzo” is part of a renewed strategy by the Nigerian military to reclaim ungoverned spaces in Zamfara’s forests, flush out insurgents, and restore lasting peace to the region.
