Security Forces Foil Twin Bandit Attacks in Sokoto, Recover Rustled Livestock
In a renewed wave of violence, suspected Lakurawa bandits launched coordinated attacks on two communities in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State on April 7, 2025, PRNigeria reports.
However, swift responses by security forces helped to repel the assailants and recover some stolen livestock.
The first incident occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in Takkau Village, Gongono District, where approximately thirty armed bandits stormed the area on motorcycles, firing sporadically into the air to instill panic.
According to Zagazola, villagers fled their homes, leaving behind properties and domestic animals. The hoodlums capitalized on the chaos to rustle an unspecified number of livestock before fleeing.

In response to a distress call, a joint team of security forces conducted a search-and-rescue operation. While some of the stolen animals were successfully recovered, efforts are still ongoing to apprehend the fleeing criminals.
Meanwhile, later the same day—around 11:30 p.m. another group of suspected Lakurawa bandits attacked Sutti Village and Sutti Kwarakka Ward, also in Tangaza LGA. This time, about 40 gunmen on motorcycles invaded the communities under the cover of night, firing indiscriminately.
However, in a prompt counterattack, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA engaged the assailants in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to retreat into the nearby bushes.
Two villagers sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange—one in the right hand and the other in the left leg. They were quickly evacuated to the General Hospital for treatment and are currently responding well.
