NEMA, IOM Receive 144 Stranded Nigerians Evacuated from Libya
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Lagos Operations Office, in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other key stakeholders, has successfully received 144 vulnerable Nigerian returnees from Libya.
The returnees arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Cargo Terminal, Ikeja, Lagos, on Monday, April 8, 2025, aboard an Al Buraq chartered Boeing aircraft with registration number 5ADMG. They included 89 adult males, 35 adult females, 17 children, and 3 infants.

The evacuation was coordinated by the IOM as part of its voluntary humanitarian repatriation programme, in collaboration with NEMA, the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Department of State Services (DSS), Port Health Services, and the Nigeria Police Force.
According to a statement posted by NEMA on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday, the returnees were received at about 5:15 p.m. and immediately underwent profiling and biometric registration at the airport.
Following the necessary procedures, they were transferred to the Igando Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) resettlement centre in Lagos, where they will benefit from reintegration support and other humanitarian services aimed at helping them rebuild their lives.
