Retired Air Vice Marshal Joseph Allam Passes Away at 83
The Nigerian Air Force and the people of Benue State have lost a distinguished son, as Air Vice Marshal Joseph Kwado Allam (retired) passed away on March 17, 2025, in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, following a brief illness. He was 83.
Until his retirement in 1992, AVM Allam served as the Air Officer Operations at the Nigerian Air Force Headquarters. His illustrious career also included a diplomatic posting as Nigeria’s Defence Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington, D.C.

Following his military service, Allam briefly ventured into politics. In 1993, he was elected to the House of Representatives under the platform of the defunct Social Democratic Party (SDP), representing Gboko/Tarka Federal Constituency.
In retirement, AVM Allam dedicated his life to community development and Christian evangelism, earning the respect and admiration of many across his native Yandev and beyond.
He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and extended family members.
According to the family, funeral arrangements are as follows:
April 25, 2025 (3:00 PM): Body departs from the Nigerian Air Force Hospital in Makurdi to Tse-Allam in Yandev for an all-night Christian wake-keep.
April 26, 2025 (10:00 AM): Funeral rites and interment at the same venue.
